Company News >> QLED TV VS OLED TV Who has more advantages?
Samsung's quantum dot QLED TV regained the throne of high-end TVs in the second quarter of this year. However, the battle between QLED and OLED has not yet been completed, and the research institute predicts that the sales of OLED TVs will exceed QLED this year.

BusinessKorea reported that IHS Markit predicts that OLED TV sales will reach 2.54 million units this year, more than double the number of last year. At the same time, QLED TV sales this year is estimated at 1.96 million units, representing 580 million more than QLED.

According to LG Display's data, global OLED TV panel sales in the first half of 2018 reached 1.3 million, more than double the 600,000 in the first half of 2017.

LG Display believes that the sales of OLED TV panels will reach 2.9 million units in 2018. After the 8.5-generation plant in Guangzhou was put into production in the second half of 2019, LG expects its production capacity to double again, from the current 70,000 substrates per month (re-divided into smaller panels) to 130,000 pieces per month. .

In addition, LG Display has announced that it will use the 10.5-generation production line being built in Paju City to manufacture OLED panels. Once built, the plant will have a stronger ability to produce large-size OLED TV panels.

A number of international TV manufacturers have joined the OLED camp, and LG Electronics expects OLEDs to grow rapidly. LG Electronics is a brother in the OLED TV market. In the first half of this year, LGDisplay's large-size OLED panel shipments reached 1.3 million units, more than double the growth rate of 600,000 units in the same period last year.

LGD said that the shipment of large-size OLED panels in the first half of 2018 has increased significantly, with sales of 55, 65and 77products maintaining a uniform growth. The OLED sector is expected to turn profit for the first time in the second half of this year.

Industry analysts believe that the surge in LGD's large-size OLED panel shipments is mainly due to the growth of the global OLED camp and the hot sales of OLED TVs in the terminal market.

At the same time, Samsung, TCL and Hisense also formed an alliance to promote "QLED" TV, and compete with OLED TV. The current QLED TV does not use the new display technology, but the LCD TV is covered with a quantum dot film.

Samsung Electronics does not produce OLEDs, specializing in QLEDs. BusinessKorea reported in August that high-end TV, Samsung lost its leading position last year, and now returns to glory. In the second quarter of this year, the high-end TVs above US$2,500, Samsung accounted for 43.8%, ranking first; the larger screens above 75, Samsung accounted for 57.9%, Lada and Sony and LG difference.

According to South Korea’s daily economic report, Samsung’s consumer electronics (CE) division, which is responsible for the home appliance business, will expand its ultra-large TV series of over 75 inches in the second half of the year, launch new products, and expand sales of QLED TVs.

In the first half of 2018, Samsung QLED TVs increased by 4 times compared with the first half of 2017, and ultra-large TVs also increased by 3 times. The surge in sales of Samsung TV is due to the large number of large-scale sports events such as the World Cup and the Asian Games in 2018. The market strategy for ultra-large products of 75 inches or more is accurate.

According to IHS Markit, a foreign exchange source, the TV market above 75 inches, based on the amount, Samsung accounted for 42.3% in 2016, 46.2% in 2017, 58.5% in the first quarter of 2018, etc. increase yearly. Samsung acquired Dacor, a US home appliance brand, in 2016, targeting the most advanced embedded appliance market.
